Temporary memory loss

Transient global amnesia is a condition that involves temporary memory loss. This condition is common among people of ages 30 and above. It is also common among people who had strokes. It would usually present as the person being confused with his present environment. This condition would usually last from one hour to one day.

The patient will not remember all the past events within his life. He or she would also not be able not retain all the things that have happened to him during the present time. Knowing the causes of this condition is important for us to be aware of this type of illness.

There are many causes that contribute to the development of the said condition.

Temporary memory loss because of decrease in blood supply

The first cause would be is the decrease in the blood supply of the human brain. So what can be the risk factors that contribute to this happening? There are many major cardiovascular and neurological diseases that contribute to the illness.

Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is one of the most common disease that block the brain’s blood supplies. In atherosclerosis, there’s a fat forming inside the lumen of the blood vessel. Plaque is the term used for substances that form inside the vessels. As these materials were being formed inside, the tendency would be for it to block the blood flowing through it causing temporary memory loss.

Migraine

Migraine is another important cause of this condition. Studies have shown that almost 15 percent of people have suffered from migraine before having the disease. The exact mechanism on how it contributes with Transient global amnesia is still unknown. However, just like epilepsy, it contributes to the development of the disease.

Depression is another cause of Transient global amnesia. A study has been made and confirmed that people who have suffered from this condition had high levels of anxiety as well as depression before having the disease.
